Cadence/ClearCase: improve speed of scan checkedout directories

In one of our bigger projects we noticed that ClearCase Workarea Manager takes very long to complete the "scan checkedout directories" function. I took a deeper look and found that it executes
cleartool lsco -fmt '%n:%[object_kind]p\n' -cview -recurse
where this list in our case is a list of 42 paths, most of them in VOBs. It takes here approx. 5 min to complete - just to find there is no checkout at all!
On the other hand, using a different set of options, it is very quick:

$ gtime cleartool lsco -cview -avob -sh | & tee /tmp/out
0.05user 0.02system 0:01.15elapsed 7%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 52032maxresident)k
0inputs+0outputs (0major+3397minor)pagefaults 0swaps

Little more than a second! So I was wondering, whether the code couldn't be refactored such that it would work as follows:
- collect from all libraries defined in the context (those 42 in our case) the containing VOBs; in our case this is just a single one!
- set CLEARCASE_AVOBS= and run "cleartool lsco -fmt '%n:%[object_kind]p\n' -cview -avob"
- iterate over the output, filter for directories and match against the list of library directories
